The Law of Attraction - How Are You Using It?

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

The Law of Attraction (LOA) has been touted as giving you the ability to manifest your dreams, but what’s the truth behind it?

The premises at the base of the LOA are:

1. Everything is an energy form that vibrates at a certain frequency

2. Thoughts are a non physical form of energy

3. Each of us can be in charge of our thoughts and those thoughts create our reality

4. The thoughts we think (either consciously or unconsciously), have a certain vibration to it

5. The world is about baIance and so in order for the energy to be in balance, the thought vibration needs to “attract a match”, hence the LOA.

This is a universal principle and in science it’s called Quantum Physics, you either agree with this or not.

So with this understanding you may say, “Ok, all I have to do is control my thoughts and I’ll attract whatever I think of.” That may be true, although most of us are not conscious enough to be in charge of our thoughts. What ends up happening is that you try to think in a more positive way for a few minutes and then the phone rings and you fall back into the old thought patterns which becomes you dominant mode of thinking again. Nothing then changes and you’re back at square one.

The truth is that you do have the power to create something different for yourself without the mental struggle. It will require you to bring something though, your PRESENCE.

What does that mean? Well… firstly, understand that there’s a mind where thoughts arise and that works through whatever circumstances you grew up with (unconsciously), then there is YOU, the observing presence, the one that’s aware, Consciousness.

The fact that you can be aware of your thoughts means that there is a gap between this one that can observe and the thoughts. So if you practice on being aware of what you think, say and do, then this it gets easier to notice whether your thoughts and actions support what you want or not. The intention is to get a good look at how you, as an ego, operate.

Once you start this you’ll see that there’s virtually not a moment that something isn’t happening during your waking hours. You’re either doing something mundane and lost in thoughts (or lost in the TV’s drama’s) or, you’re doing something that requires you to concentrate, in which case you bring a more presence. Start with when you’re brushing your teeth and see where your mind goes!

So to implement the LOA you now have two choices:

1. The old way of visualizing what you want everyday and hoping something will change, or;

2. Focus on being present so that where you are right now feels good and you trust that whatever shows up in the next moment will be fine also. Through the presence, you’ll get to see the negative thoughts and then you can simply allow them to keep flowing through so that you “stick” to you. In this way you align with what is and your vibrations will be much more benign.

Why Did That Manifest?

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Do you ever stop and ask yourself how or why you just manifested something completely unwanted?

The scratch on the car.

The dog poo on your shoe.

The delayed mail you were expecting.

Whenever you stop and ask yourself “how did that happen?”, you may be completely correct in your initial assumptions. Maybe you were getting too attached the car and wanted it to look so nice that you manifested a scratch.

You could be correct. Then again, you might be no where near the truth of it.

By placing your attention on the “how’s” and “why’s” you’re just giving more attention to the unwanted thing. When you give something your focus and attention for long periods of time, you’re going to manifest more of what you’re thinking about.

Instead of getting yourself all worked up by the unwanted circumstance, remove your attention from it and be OK with whatever has happened. If you observe anyone’s life, be it a Zen master, a Law of Attraction guru or just your next door neighbor, you will quickly see that everyone, regardless of who they are, experience unwanted circumstances.

When you truly realize that no one lives a so called ‘perfect’ life, you can more easily let go of the bad things and start to see it as what life deals you. Life will constantly deal you all sorts of hands. Usually when bad things are happening, they happen to help you grow and to become more consciously aware. So in actual fact, you can begin to see all of these negatives as positives in the long run.

Once you’ve gotten yourself to the place where it doesn’t matter whether you attract something unwanted or not, that is when you will begin truly living a life worth living.

Here’s a couple of additional ways in which you can practice letting go of the “why’s” when something unwanted happens to you next time…

Become Present – Live your life in this moment and not the past. It’s easier said than done, but if you take a second to think about it, NOW is all you ever have. Yesterday and tomorrow do not exist. The only thing that exists is… right now. Right now is all that will ever exist.

Take your attention away from the past (what has happened) or the future (what will happen) and place your attention on NOW. When you live in the present, you have no use for thoughts that are in the past. So the question “why did that manifest?” won’t even be of any significance to you since you’re living in the present and not the past.

Observe Something Wanted – As I mentioned earlier in this article, by giving your attention to something UNWANTED, you will begin to attract more of it. One of the best ways to forget about unwanted things and to remove your attention from the unwanted things is to simply look at something you DO want or something you DO enjoy.

So in the example that your car got scratched, instead of focusing on the scratch, go inside the car where you can’t see it and enjoy the inner surroundings of the car. Take it for a drive and enjoy the feelings you get from driving your car. Do whatever it takes to remove your attention from it (usually means separating yourself from the incident) and bring your attention to wanted things that you enjoy.

This will ultimately help you attract more of what you want, and less of what you don’t.

Memory Games That Can Improve Your Memory

Friday, July 4th, 2008

“Does memory games really helps to improve your memory” That is a good question to ask. Of course it can! Since young, we have been shoved with plenty of dose of memory games. Even babies play it too! Little did we know that simple memory games could help you to improve your memory, miraculously! Who says that memory games are reserved only for the kiddies? Believe it or not, memory games work for everyone. If you realize that your memory is deteriorating fast, then this sure calls for some emergency help. You will definitely would not want to have a memory capacity of a 70 year old when you are only 30 would you?

You might have heard your people saying to you “Why not do something more productive?” when you play these memory games. These people definitely do not understand the entire purpose of memory games.

Mind puzzles games are excellent for your mind. You will be able to improve your concentration and focus level, just by meddling around with these mind puzzles. At the same time, some memory games will require you to retrieve information from the past and recall them. These kinds of games are definitely handy for kids who are suffering from Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These puzzles will allow them to concentrate for a longer period of time and hence making them learn how to overcome the disorder.

Puzzle games are more ideal for adults. These puzzles usually come in different stages whereby it just gets increasingly harder as you reach the peak. It is definitely something fun to do and at the same time, it would allow you to develop analyzing skills and a bit of strategizing skills, depending on the puzzle’s level of difficulty of course. You might not have the obvious effect of a larger brain when you continuously play puzzles and mind games. But you can definitely feel the difference when you are able to solve the puzzle in 1 minute flat.

Some of the popular mind games and puzzles will be – Boggle, Pick-up-sticks, and how can we forget the popular games like Medal of Honor whereby a lot of thinking and strategizing is needed.

While some of these games might seem a little irrelevant or “too easy” for you, they will still help to give you necessary amount of power to boost your memory.

Of course, do remember that this does not mean that you have to sit down the entire day playing endless mind games and puzzles. Remember to include a good dose of rest and some exercises too. When the mind gets too tired, it will just slow down the entire process of thinking and remembering. As such, what you are advised to do is to include several different kinds of activities, along with these mind-boggling puzzles. Take a break, do yoga or jog around the park. These exercises will help to rejuvenate the mind and hence allowing a better circulation in the body. Although this might sound ridiculous to you, doing so will ensure that you keep your mind fresh and healthy for use at all times.

You might be 60 years old but your memory capacity is as good as a 30 year old. It is time to amaze your friends with your amazing mind power!

Stop Visualizing to Get Manifestation

Friday, July 4th, 2008

When using visualizations to make the Law of Attraction yield to you your desires, you are in massive contradiction to the Law of Attraction itself.

The Law of Attraction will yield to you more of what you give your attention.

So, if you visualize in order to manifest more money, you will be giving two things your attention. You will be giving more money your attention (which is what you want), but you will also be giving your attention to where you currently are, since you don’t already have the manifestation.

Can you see the madness in this?

Visualizing for the attainment of something is in contradiction of the Law of Attraction.

That isn’t to say that visualizing your desires isn’t powerful and does not work. It can work very well, yet you just need to make a gentle shift in order to see better results.

Instead of visualizing to attain a desire, visualize for the fun of visualizing. Visualize your desires because they make you feel good! Not because you will receive something if you do the visualization.

This is one of the most common mistakes new Law of Attraction practitioners have when they start out. They see movies like “The Secret” and feel that if you place their attention on more money that they will get it. By doing that, you’re giving your attention to not having the money you want, and you’re also giving your attention to having more money.

How could the Law of Attraction possibly decide what to yield you, if you do that? Instead, the Law of Attraction will yield to you what you expect and believe the most, which tends to be the lack of money.

Try manifesting more money when you don’t need it as much. Release your “wanting” of it so that can actually just experience the delights of imaginging what its like with more money. Enjoy the visualization and allow it to make you feel good. This is when the fun starts happening.

My first ever deliberate money manifestation happened just like this. I wasn’t attached to the outcome as I wasn’t desperate for more money. I also didn’t have any resistance to whether the Law of Attraction worked or not. I simply practiced what I had been taught and let it be at that.

I carried a check around with me detailing the exact amount of money I wanted to manifest. I made time to visualize my desire every single day and really enjoyed it. It made me feel more alive than I often do in “reality”. I wasn’t worried about not having the money, or whether I had it. I was simply enjoying the experience of visualizing myself with all of that abundance.

Within 30-40 days, I had received the plans from no where to make the exact figure I desired. Within 2 months, I had successfully done it and from that moment on, I was hooked to the Law of Attraction and this new way of living.

Make time for yourself and visualize to feel good, not to manifest stuff.

The Effectiveness of the So-Called Stop Smoking Pill

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Like many men and women, you may have a strong desire to stop smoking. You have heard all of the reports pertaining to how harmful smoking can be to you … and to those around you. However, even with this information, you may not have been able to succeed at kicking your smoking habit thus far. As a result, you may have started to give consideration to using what rather commonly has become known as a stop smoking pill. Through this article, you are provided an overview of this product to assist you in determining whether or not it is the right choice for you when it comes to the issue of your own smoking cessation.

There actually has been a significant amount of hype around the “stop smoking pill” in recent times. Promoters of the product contend that the pill represents an “easy way” for a person to stop smoking. The contention is raised that smoking cessation, kicking the habit, can be a breeze.

Of course, as with so many products associated with stopping smoking that have entered the market with great fanfare, when it comes to the stop smoking pill, a closer examination of the reality of the product reveals something different. The bottom line when it comes to quiting smoking, consideration must be given not only to stopping in the first instance but to staying away from cigarettes into the future. It is one thing to quit and something entirely different all together to stay away from smokes in the future.

When all is said and done, the pill that has been heralded as the easy way to stop smoking really only attacks part of the smoking problem in the first instance. While it is true that nicotine and what many experts term nicotine addiction plays a significant role in what compels an individual to smoke in the first instance, it is not the only factor at play. The reality is that nicotine reliance or even addiction is one of the compulsions that draws an individual to smoking.

Beyond a physiological attraction to or reliance upon nicotine, people smoke for additional reasons that include everything from it being an ingrained habit to the fact that for many individuals smoking serves as a psychological crutch for one reason or another. Simply, the typical person smokes for a combination of reasons.

In the end, the so-called stop smoking pill really only deals with the matter of a person’s reliance or perhaps dependence upon nicotine. The pill simply does not address any other issues that tie people up in a smoking habit. In order to stop smoking successfully in the first instance, and in order to “stay stopped,” it is crucial that all of the factors that caused a person to pick up a pack of cigarettes be addressed through a comprehensive cessation process.

Of course, there have been instances in which the smoking cessation pill has resulted in an individual giving up smoking, there is an ever growing list of men and women who used the pill to “stop smoking” only to take up the habit again with a literal vengeance not long after initially “giving up” cigarettes.

Underlying the reality that the stop smoking pill is not a magical cure to smoking is the fact that people who have such a belief simply do not do all they need to do to end their smoking habit permanently. The unshakable reality is that stopping smoking, breaking the cigarette habit, requires work and effort on your part. You must be willing and able to deal with all of the elements that drew you to cigarettes in the first instance and that caused you to continue smoking even in the face of the facts that it was harmful to your health.

Millions of people all over the world are so addicted to nicotine that they simply think there is no hope to ever stop smoking. But there is more than hope and thousands of people have already experienced the life change of really quitting with our system. The Cycles of Life – We Go Round and Round in the Circle Game

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

In one of the great songs about the cycles of life—a song that captures the feelings of the moment—Joni Mitchell wrote and sang:

“And the seasons they go round and round

And the painted ponies go up and down

We’re captive on the carousel of time

We can’t return we can only look behind

From where we came

And go round and round and round

In the circle game”

Are we captured on the carousel of time—experiencing fleeting moments of joy, suffering and some pain along the way—thrilling to victory one day, reeling in defeat the next—until we finally take that one last ride—when the painted pony goes up and comes down for the final time?

Birth—And Death?

It appears we are born and we die. In the meanwhile we exist—only God or the Universal Mind knows for how long—some mystics say we choose our birth and eventual death. Some Buddhists believe as long as karmic issues aren’t resolved we are caught on the wheel of birth and death. Others say that death is an illusion—we are eternal beings. There are others that state that if death is an illusion—so is birth.

Are we born only to die? I believe there is more to it than this discomforting thought. My meditations allowed me many insights in the nature of existence—and the existence of other worlds—other possibilities. Quantum physicists claim that energy never dies—it is only rearranged or transformed. Madonna sings about being a “Material Girl” and she is no doubt having fun—but the truth is that we are energy. Still, I can’t supply you anything definite about what happens after we ride the final cycle.

Life—The Cycles of Youth

Many people wish they were captured on a carousel rather than running the treadmill they are enslaved on. If only they could jump off safely and live the life that resides in the recesses of their minds. Once during the times of their youth they had dreams and believed their fantasies would be their reality. They knew they would experience their most sublime desires—not realizing that other urgencies and commitments would relegate these to the unattainable. If only they could return to the time when they sometimes lived in their dreams and fantasies and believed these had substance—that they would manifest in their lives. But they can’t return—they can only look back. Maybe if they could see through the eyes of a child again—the child they once were.

Even though the child is captured on the carousel of time he doesn’t look back with regret or live with fear of the future. Now is all that matters. All the child’s fun, fears and learning experiences are happening now.

On a warm summer’s day a boy sits at the bank of the stream, lazily casting his hopes for a catch—not worrying about a thing. At the same time a young girl could be playing house—arranging all her dolls, doll clothes, toy furniture, props, etc. into her fantasy of the happy family. She doesn’t see this as an event that takes place when she grows up—it is happening now. It is a current event.

Do you remember the time only the moment mattered? Life was a series of moments—experienced and savored one at a time. The painted ponies kept going up and down. Another cycle is completed. It was the New Year—a new year of hope and of exciting experiences. It was your first boyfriend, your first kiss, the time you matured enough to make love for the first time.

Are you experiencing remembrances of your senior prom—when you clumsily pinned a corsage on your date—a blossoming young woman who took your breath away? How about the cool fall evening at the Friday night football game when you sat in the bleachers and snuggled up to your date for warmth—and companionship. Sometimes you cared if your school won the game or not—and you cheered until you were overcome with hoarseness. Other times you were too enthralled by the exciting boy or girl next to you. You embraced the cycle of life. We always will have these moments to remember.

The Cycle Becomes a Treadmill

The day you took your wedding vows. A new era was beginning. The painted ponies were going up and down—up and down in pleasure and delight. You marriage begins with fervent hope for the future—for everlasting happiness and love. Your new job and subsequent promotion. A child is born. Your first home—a starter house but cherished just the same.

Then something happened. You can’t pin the exact time it occurred. Maybe it was gradual. You suddenly realize it’s been a long time since you heard the music of the carousel and rode the painted ponies—in fact you can’t remember the last time you ran and jumped on the carousel with anticipation of a joyous experience.. You are now on a treadmill—and endless cycle of walking and running—and it never ends. The days, weeks, months and years go by as before—you swear they are actually going faster than before. Some of your hopes and dreams came true and you have fond memories of some of them—others seem as if they were empty desires—desires without substance or credibility. If only you had conceived your dreams and desires with wisdom.

Many of your dreams and desires have vanished—vanished before they had an opportunity to manifest. Where did they go? You lament “Why did they leave me stranded in my suffering and despair? Is there a way to bring them back—to be rescued from a life that is less than it could be?”

Chained to the Treadmill of Despair

A time may arrive in a person’s life when he or she discovers that they are living a life of many illusions—“looking through a glass, darkly.” Why else would life seem like a never-ending run on the treadmill of pain, suffering and frustration? The individual believes he is unable to jump off and if he could—he lacks the energy and motivation to do so.

Once an individual abandons his dreams, desires and fantasies—he relinquishes his power. The subsequent feeling of emptiness causes him to look outside of himself in order to regain what he has lost. And what does he find? He finds that he is now controlled by the illusory power of others. He escapes in hours upon hours of television—which quickly becomes his new master. He adopts second hand values—that he can no longer distinguish from the values he once held. He allows other to do his thinking and supply him with their pseudo-philosophy. Finally he is permanently chained to the treadmill of his despair. At least he believes he is. Can he ever awaken from his self-defeating nightmare?

The Rescue – Riding the Glorious Heights of the Cycle

Fortunately some do wake-up and realize they have been sleepwalking or walking around blind. They happily discover that they didn’t permanently relinquish their power—in fact they still possess it. It resides within who they are. They finally see reality for what it is. Their eyes brighten up and their spirit soars.

They get off the treadmill—once again jump on the carousel and mount the painted pony. Yes, the painted pony still goes up and down—but they realize it is taking them to a glorious future—the future that they had so often dreamed and wished for during their youth. The fact that their beloved painted pony will ride the final cycle and go up and down for the last time no longer causes fear, uncertainty and despair. They realize that the final cycle in this life is actually the beginning of a series of new cycles in an even more glorious existence.

Blissfully Ignorant With the Law of Attraction

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

By being blissfully ignorant about certain things in this world, you can greatly increase your success rate with the Law of Attraction and making it work for you.

Illnesses can come and go in seconds instead of months. Depending on what you believe to be true, that is what you’ll experience. Allow me to explain…

Rhonda Byrne, author of the book “The Secret”, told a wonderful story about how she healed her sight. Because she was so blissfully ignorant to the actual methods involved in order to heal her sight, she decided that it was entirely possible to use the Law of Attraction to successfully do it.

The result? She healed her eye sight and has perfect vision.

After speaking to a professional in this field, he explained to her how impossible and quite miraculous that would have been to accomplish. Because she had no resistance around eye repair, it was very easy for her to accomplish.

Being blissfully ignorant is one of the most beautiful things you could possibly achieve.

Life is designed by you. Whatever you believe as true, is true for you and your experience. If you believe money is hard to manifest, then that’s your truth. The fact is, there are plenty on this planet who feel that money is one of the easiest things to manifest. Completely contradictory to what others believe. So who’s right and who’s wrong? Neither! Whatever you believe as truth is true for you.

Just the other day my father made a comment that reminded me of how grateful I am to be blissfully ignorant. He asked me what I had for lunch, I replied “a couple of boiled eggs”. “You have eggs a lot, don’t you?” … “Yes, I like them a lot!” … “Your cholesterol levels must be through the roof!”.

The fact is… I have no idea what cholesterol really is. Nor do I care. It has no importance in my life and the fact that I don’t give it my attention or worry about cholesterol levels means that my body remains healthy, because that is what I believe.

My father on the other hand, is a diabetic who constantly is checking his levels and ensuring he has the correct advertised blood sugar levels, etc. He’s bought into the idea that you have to have correct levels in order to live healthily.

Being blissfully ignorant of so called “important” life information can do you and your beliefs wonders. If you simply do not buy into what other people are telling you and simply follow your own gut instinct with your decisions you will always move towards more joyful and abundant situations.

Of course, the moment you give away your power and allow other peoples opinions to affect you, that is when your beliefs will start to change. The more you focus on illness and sickness the more of it is being attracted into your life. The more you talk about it to your friends and family and tell them about your latest problems, the more of them are being created.

My advice is to remove your attention from these people in your life. Their opinions are very valid for them, but they don’t need to be for you.

How to Get Everything You Want

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

I hear people often say things like, “It’s great to be spiritually aware and peaceful, but I still feel there are things I want to achieve, have and do, how do I do that while still being mindful?”

Let me be clear, there’s nothing wrong with wanting more, it’s part of our abundant nature. It’s the thinking attached to the things we achieve, have or do that leads us astray.

Out of this, I’ve decided to give you a formula that is guaranteed to succeed for you when all 3 elements are in alignment with each other!

The Formula is:

You x (Thoughts + Actions) = Results/Outcomes

Or, Y x (T + A) = R

Interpretation:

YOU:

This is the most important part of the equation and involves you being still enough to know exactly what it is that you want. Most people will say they know what they want but in reality there’s so much happening around them that it’s just something that sounds nice, for e.g. I want a new car.

You need to be crystal clear on what it is that you truly want because without the clarity, you won’t have the focus required. So go into a quiet room, sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and ask the question, “What is it that I truly want?”

If other thoughts come in, allow them to pass through and keep asking the question. You’ll know when you have the right answer because it will fill you with enthusiasm and excitement.

If no answer comes, then leave it and return to it tomorrow, spend at least 15 minutes with it each day until something comes.

Remember, this is a critical step, the YOU part of this equation is the foundation and your thoughts and actions are surface structures, without a foundation all buildings crumble!

THOUGHTS

Once you’re clear on what it is you want, you need to be vigilant of what you’re thinking because the old conditioned (unconscious part) of you will probably not be comfortable with change and will look to sabotage efforts. This is where your mindfulness practice comes in handy, notice the objections that come up in you in wanting to change. In you noticing them, they lose their power to influence you.

ACTIONS

Action is the final step, unlike a lot of self-help tools out there that say action is the most important aspect of getting what you want. When the steps above are taken care of, action becomes a natural flow from that. You find that you’re actually motivated to take action because you’re clear about what you want and understand the importance of it. Action is only becomes work when you’re doing something that isn’t in alignment with what you really want. Action becomes a pleasure when it is in alignment with what you want and that’s something that a lot of people don’t experience yet.

Final Note, when the YOU is there, your efforts through your thoughts and actions are multiplied dramatically. This is what is missing in personal development models that focus on positive thinking and taking action alone.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Skills to Help Yourself in Six Weeks

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

For many people who need help with overcoming depression, anxiety, OCD or other emotional, psychological or behavioral problems, Cognitive Behavior Therapy could be the answer. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is suitable for anyone who is able to think and reflect on his or her thinking! Of course, this is trickier then it sounds but a good therapist can help you do this. Cognitive Behavior Therapy is particularly suitable for people who want to be active in helping themselves, as it actually teaches you tools and techniques to gain control over your problem. Many people find this a refreshing alternative to more traditional forms of counseling.

Unfortunately, (although this is changing), there are often a shortage of NHS Cognitive Therapists and you will often be put on a waiting list. If you are not working because of your depression or other problem or your ability to function in life activities is impaired, waiting is sometimes not an option.

The other choice you have to is to find a private therapist offering CBT services. Of course, there is the cost to consider and for some people weeks of expensive therapy is out of the question. CBT is a time-limited intervention (the average number of sessions required is usually between 5-15) and a good therapist will agree with you the number of sessions you are likely to require and work within this framework. This is regularly reviewed throughout the therapy process and more or less sessions may be needed, depending on your progress.

I am an occupational therapist, and I provide Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Edinburgh and via telephone consultations for people living in Hertfordshire. I believe that if you are motivated to help yourself (the will needs to be there, your therapist will support you in motivating yourself if you are depressed), if you feel you could help yourself if only you had the tools and if you are willing to practice techniques in between sessions, you can utilise Cognitive Behavior Therapy to begin the journey of recovery in as little as six one hour sessions.

In fact, I find that clients who agree to work within a six-session time-frame mostly learn the basic CBT techniques and how to apply them and are motivated by the knowledge that there is an ending to therapy. These clients will often make the most out of therapy sessions, taking an active part and practicing in between.

If you feel this approach would work for you, then you can suggest to a private therapist in your area that you would like to try to work within a six sessions time-frame. If you have a longstanding and more complex problem, then you may require longer-term input, your therapist will be able to advise you of this.

Here is an example of what clients learn on a six week 1:1 course at Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) Edinburgh:

Week 1: Introduction to CBT Model and how this relates to your problem. Recognizing the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behavior. Learning to monitor your thinking. How to identify of “Hot thoughts”

Week 2: Review of your thought diary and learning how to challenge your own unhelpful thinking, examining the evidence for and against your cognition’s and identifying information processing errors. Learning to substitute rational adaptive interpretations for biased interpretations.

Week 3. Identifying underlying core beliefs (schema). Beginning to devise ways to challenge old negative beliefs and restructure new adaptive beliefs. Designing your own behavior experiments.

Week 4-6 Cognitive and Behavioral experiments and activities as decided by therapist and client to target client’s specific difficulties. For example, learning relaxation and mindfulness techniques for anxiousness, graded exposure for avoidance, activity scheduling and activity logs to deal with inactivity and poor motivation. Self-esteem exercises and scheduling pleasurable activities for low mood.

Throughout the six week course at CBT Edinburgh, clients are required to supplement what is learnt during the sessions with homework activities and sometimes reading.
