What Is Heartburn? Definitions, Root Causes, Perils And Remedies

What does Heartburn Signify? It is a Sign of DANGER. Find Out How to Identify and Treat Your Heartburn the PROPER Way.

The cause of heartburn is refluxed gastric acid that enters the esophagus and then inflames the lining. This leads to the familiar symptom of heartburn as the throat or chest area discomforting burning feeling, produced either when eating a meal or afterwards.

This distressing and painful complaint is frequently encountered by inhabitants of western countries. This may not mean that you have a medical problem, if as a healthy individual, you get occasional heartburn. However, upon heartburn becoming persistent, it can lead to a situation of acid reflux disease, also called GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease).

GERD symptoms can go beyond just heartburn. They can also show up as regurgitation, attacks of asthma, chest pain, hoarseness and dry coughing, as well as yet others.

Medical research done in the recent past shows a connection between GERD and cancer of the esophagus. This justifies the need to treat acid reflux in a timely and effective way. GERD can occasion even further suffering if it is neglected and left untreated, possibly being transformed into yet more serious problems.

Some causes cannot be treated or managed, an example being the inherited characteristics that lead to the complaint of heartburn. Other causes may be interlinked, such as bad sleep hygiene, an overly stressful lifestyle, accumulation of toxins, Candida infections and poor diet plans, which can all either directly or indirectly provoke acid reflux. To effectively treat GERD, it is crucial to recognize and treat the underlying reasons of this medical impairment.

To fight heartburn, there are three major types of treatments that a sufferer has available. Medications constitute the first category, whether these are prescription or over the counter. Regrettably, such medicaments are only a short-term answer and may also provoke undesirable side effects. Examples for acid reflux alleviation are H2 blockers, antacids and PPIs. These products concentrate on diminishing the symptoms of GERD by balancing out or diminishing the production of stomach acid.

The next category for tackling acid reflux is surgery. There are however serious inconveniences to this second category. Surgery is intrusive and can therefore cause health complications. It only addresses the physical cause of heartburn (a weak sphincter), doing nothing to resolve the underlying causative agents that are really responsible for the problem. Surgery’s goal is to reinforce the sphincter muscle that seals off the stomach from the esophagus to prevent gastric acid from going back into the esophagus. When GERD starts, it is typically because this sphincter is not shutting correctly, this allowing gastric acids escape in the reverse direction towards the esophageal cavity.

The third eventuality for heartburn patients is the holistic, all natural approach. This approach is the most efficient and the most effective, as it is the only one to combat the internal malfunction in a holistic way, while at the same time eliminating the symptoms and regaining your body’s natural internal equilibrium. It is possible to heal GERD effectively, permanently and safely through the adoption of a program specifically made to target the root causes of acid reflux.

The Truth REVEALED About Heartburn and Vinegar

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

In the article below, an experienced nutritionist gives you the explanations on the vinegars that should not be consumed by heartburn patients, and another kind of vinegar that actually works to significantly reduce your medical impairment besides being a good supplement for your food plan. In essence, we answer the question of the relevance or not of vinegar in your food plan against heartburn. There are many varieties of vinegars available for western consumers, but medical and paramedical practitioners are unanimous in their belief that just one of them is suitable for sufferers of heartburn.

Let’s start by defining Heartburn as the painful burning sensation in the region of the throat or the thorax, often accompanied by a bitter or sour taste. Heartburn may indicate GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). Severe cases of GERD may also be identified by swallowing difficulties, bouts of asthma, weight loss and a chronically hoarse voice. Neglect or lack of proper treatment of GERD may make things even worse. The next phase is a state called Barrett’s esophagus with the threat of cancer of the esophagus in addition. Even if people who are quite healthy also sometimes get heartburn (less than once a week), chronic heartburn strongly suggests GERD, or acid reflux, as it is also known.

In a healthy organism, a ring-like muscle allows food and drink to pass one way into the stomach, but then shuts off any reverse flow of stomach contents. Certain factors, detailed below, can weaken this muscle, leaving stomach juices free to get back into the esophageal cavity (this is what we term acid reflux), doing internal damage and leading to heartburn. In medical jargon, this ring like muscle is the LES (lower esophageal sphincter), and the complaint is termed gastro esophageal reflux disease. Therefore it is the role of the LES as a valve of muscle to shut off the esophagus from the stomach.

The multitude of causes of GERD means complex direct and indirect actions, as well as the interconnections between primary and secondary factors. Some factors initiate the problem, others simply make an existing problem worse. Factors liable to bring about GERD include:

1. Gastric acid production above normal levels. Often due to a genetic deficiency, the human body may over produce gastric acid, which is then that much more liable to flow back into the esophagus to corrode the inner walls.

2. Excessive growth of Candida, In certain contexts, Candida is no longer controlled properly and engages in explosive growth, overrunning the immune system and developing in excess of 79 different toxins that in turn can cause the body to malfunction in a number of ways, one of which is GERD. Candida is the mono-cellular fungal microbe found in virtually all human bodies (genitals and intestines are favorite dwelling places), in quantities that are usually kept under control by the natural flora and associated systems in the body.

It is a proven fact, in addition to the above, that a number of foods make the situation worse and stimulate Candida overgrowth. Together with white flour and sugar (and other refined carbohydrates of this type), these dangerous foods include most kinds of vinegar, including balsamic, wine, white and malt vinegar. The reason is that all these vinegars are acid-forming when consumed, thus pushing up the degree of acidity of the intestines and the blood. This then provokes acid reflux and worsens its level of severity.

The exception to this however comes from organic apple cider vinegar. This vinegar can significantly lessen esophageal inflammation and act on Candida to bring the level back down. It can also restore the alkali balance in your digestive tract, which the other vinegars cannot do either.

The only reliable possibility to stop heartburn from recurring is to directly treat the inner, underlying factors directly causing the acid reflux. This helps to explain why there is no instant remedy for heartburn itself as this is a symptom which itself is caused by a number of other internal factors.

The one solution that will bring the required results is an all-natural, holistic one.

SHOCKING Link Between Pregnancy and Heartburn

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Pregnancy can Mean WORSENING of Heartburn. Find Out How to Stop Heartburn Now and Forever.

Symptoms related to heartburn can be detected in different ways, such as a sensation of pain and burning just below the breastbone, indigestion, and a sour after-taste in the oral cavity. Heartburn is one of the symptoms afflicting pregnant women the most frequently. From different data, between 6 and 9 out of every 10 pregnant women will experience symptoms of heartburn at least once during pregnancy.

When the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) ceases to work properly, acids and gastric contents can get back into the esophagus. Infrequent heartburn may not be of great concern, but increased frequency can indicate a deeper, chronic condition called acid reflux or gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is the unwanted transmission of bile, digestive enzymes and acids that then generates heartburn. These substances transfuse back from the stomach to attack lining cells inside the esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter should normally act as a valve to keep the gastric contents in the stomach, without them escaping backwards in a healthy body.

Acid reflux is brought on by many causes. They include:

1. Acid forming foods being eaten to excess: for example, eggs, liver and wine will worsen the problem. Other difficult foodstuffs are those that lead to Candida overgrowth, digestive problems or allergies. Particular examples are meat and dairy products.

2. Poor sleep habits can negatively impact your immune functions. In this case, many related complications can arrive, including overgrowth of Candida, a digestive system that slows and becomes feeble and a build-up of toxins. These are all elements leading to acid reflux.

3. Excess body weight also puts pressure on the LES, forcing through more stomach juices and acids into the esophagus.

As an additional difficulty during pregnancy, the uterus that enlarges can also put pressure on the abdomen that then acts on the stomach and the LES to force yet more stomach contents back towards the esophagus. During pregnancy, women may also have to battle with additional problems such as constipation, indigestion and bloating. In all, pregnancy in fact becomes a factor that can lead to GERD. Hormones that the body fabricates during pregnancy have a laxative effect on a number of muscle tissues that include the lower esophageal sphincter. Acid reflux is also intensified by a digestive process that loses its dynamism.

Pregnancy and GERD simultaneously makes a solution hard to find, as many medicaments are potentially risky for women who are pregnant. The drugs that do feature on physicians’ lists for pregnant women can themselves have certain unwanted secondary effects and in general it is difficult to recommend any of them in this case.

The natural approach avoids these issues and puts in place a solution to halt heartburn both now and in the future in a safe and effective manner. Did anyone tell you that pregnant women can get alleviation today from heartburn and cure a basic cause of acid reflux by selecting a holistic solution to repair the internal imbalance that was responsible all the time for GERD symptoms?

High Blood Pressure - A New Approach To Treatment

Friday, July 4th, 2008

High blood pressure causes major health problems for many people around the world and work goes on all the time to improve the monitoring and control of blood pressure in patients who have the condition. A new study has shown that pharmacists may be very good at keeping an eye on the BP levels in groups of selected patients. A new bit of internet software and a secure Web interface helped control BP in a group of about three thousand American patients.

Those with high BP are at risk of stroke or heart attack if the problem is not brought under better control. Both stroke and heart attack can lead to either early death or a severe deterioration in the quality of life. Smoking, diabetes and a high cholesterol level are also commonly found in those people with high BP and the combination of these factors is extremely dangerous if not dealt with properly.

Many people with hypertension / high BP need to take medication on a daily basis. Sometimes just one tablet a day is enough but in many cases it needs a combination of BP tablets and some medication to lower the cholesterol level too. All of this can result in side effects due to the interactions of the BP drugs with each other and with any other medication that the patient is taking. Almost all of those who take regular blood pressure medications will experience drug related side effects of one sort or another. Common side effects are fatigue, cough and - in men - problems with a loss of sex drive and a loss of sexual arousal due to the BP meds.

Hypertension (the other name for high blood pressure) is often poorly controlled and BP levels often run high even in those who are on medication every day. Research done previously has shown benefit by adding input from a nurse or pharmacist into the patients care pathway.

The research used a home BP monitor with the results supervised by a pharmacist - the patients fed their results into a secure web based form and the pharmacist reviewed the readings and worked closely with each patient. The group studied were all adults between 25 and 75 - all had poorly controlled hypertension but were otherwise well.

The patients were divided randomly into three groups: group one had their usual care; group two had home BP monitoring and secure patient Web services training only but no pharmacist input and group three had the full package of home BP monitoring and Web training plus pharmacist care management delivered through Web communications.

The results showed that there was no real difference in BP readings in the two groups who did not have a pharmacist looking after them - both groups saw no real change in their BP control. But the group with the pharmacy input saw much better results. Fifty percent of the patients developed readings that were normal when they had previously been high all the time.

It looks like Web-based pharmacy care of people with hypertension is feasible and can improve BP control and I suspect we may see a lot more of this kind of thing in the future.

Herbal Medicines - How To Use Them Safely

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Herbal medicines and herb treatments are now widely used throughout the world. A large number of people take them on a daily basis for almost every sort of ailment or condition you could imagine. Large scale herbal pharmacies have sprung up in towns and cities and newspapers and magazine adverts promote these products widely.

But are herbal medicines safe?

Recent press reports have given significant cause for concern although - to be fair - the vast majority of those who take this kind of complementary herbal treatment do so with no adverse effects of any kind.

If you are thinking about using herbs to improve your health then follow these simple guidelines to make sure that you and your family remain safe.

Firstly - remember that herbal medicines are still medicines at the end of the day. Many of our most powerful modern drugs are derived from plants originally so it’s no great surprise that extracts of those plants also have the active chemicals in them. You need to think about how the herbs might react in your system and also about how they might work with or against any other drugs you are taking.

Secondly - some of us are at more risk than others of developing serious adverse effects. Taking herb based medication is not recommended if you are pregnant (particularly in the early stages of pregnancy but also later in the pathway), breast feeding or in young children. Recent research now shows that the elderly are also at risk from problems related to this type of complementary medicine approach.

If you are due to have a surgical operation then tell your surgeon and your anesthetic doctor what you are taking. Some of these natural products can interact with anesthetic drugs and cause major problems with breathing or with heart rhythm. Others can prolong the bleeding time and make blood loss more of a problem during surgery.

People with liver or kidney diseases are particularly at risk from problems related to so called natural healthcare products. There have been several reported deaths due to liver failure in people who have taken chinese type plant based remedies. Other research has found high levels of western drugs included in some chinese health preparations but with no indication of this on the packaging.

If you want to stay safe when using this kind of therapy you need to look carefully at the product packaging. The health regulatory authorities now closely monitor all medicinal products - including those of a natural type. Look out for the Product License (PL) or the Traditional Herbal Registration number on the box or packet. If these numbers are present then it indicates that the contents have been passed as suitable for health use.

In general if you are thinking about using herb based medication for health purposes you should be certain to seek an consultation from a qualified herbalist before you start your treatment. You wouldn’t dose yourself up with normal medication without getting advice from a doctor and you really need to apply the same principles to herb treatments too.

Acne Scars – 2 Forms of Acne Scars Are Discussed

Friday, July 4th, 2008

What lasts longer than acne is acne scars. The mark that it leaves is more dreadful than the presence of acne itself. Acne scars are physical evidence of the presence of acne. Acne scars represent the areas of damage and repair. When an area is damaged, white blood cells and platelets work together to heal the spot. However, after healing, the original form of the damaged tissue is always altered.

Genetics plays its part in the susceptibility of individuals to the degree of scarring and to the type of scar left. Some scars disappear through time, while others remain the same. Deep scars are common to people who have deeply damaged follicles.

Scars are best prevented by controlling acne pop-outs. The prevention of inflammation makes scars less likely to appear thus it is best not to squeeze them. People with healthy lifestyle need not bother since their body can eventually heal them in time. Too much sun exposure will also make scars stay longer and smoking will make the skin more vulnerable to scarring since this habit decreases the amount of collagen reserves which increases free radical formation and toxin formation.

2 Forms of Acne Scars

Acne scars come in 2 forms. There are “pseudo-scars” and “true scars”.

1. Pseudo-scars include macules and hyperpigmentation. Macules are the result of the acne’s healing process which is identified with a flat skin and reddish spot. This usually lasts for 6 months and does not result to permanent scarring. Hyperpigmentation is skin darkening after the healing process of the acne. This usually lasts for 18 months and is common among Asians, Latinos and African-Americans.

2. True scars are the result of either tissue formation or tissue loss beyond normal. Keloids or hypertropic scars represent true scars as a result of tissue formation. They are believed to be passed on genetically. They usually occur when the skin produces too much collagen, resulting to lumps in the skin, more frequently near the jaw. This kind of scar is permanent and is usually removed only through laser treatment.

True scars or the tissue loss type come in a variety forms they are:

a) Ice-pick acne scars: are usually tiny but occur deep and are associated with jagged sides.

b) Soft acne scars have sloping edges and are usually small, round and soft.

c) Fibrotic acne scars are depressed and are usually the larger versions of ice-pick scars.

d) Atrophic macules, which are seen in Caucasians, appear as purplish wrinkled skin at first then changes to an ivory color through time.

e) Follicular macular atrophy is similar to whiteheads but they are not developed. They commonly occur on the back or chest.

Acne scars poses a permanent threat to the beauty of the skin, but they are treatable. Macules and hyperpigmentation are treated with bleaching agents to lighten the color of the scar and resemble the natural color of the skin. Retinol, Retin-A and Renova are resurfacing drugs that can improve the appearance of acne. A choice of microdermabrasion and dermatologic surgery is also acceptable. It is very difficult to restore acne-injured skin to its original state but treatments aim to minimize its appearance. Consulting dermatologists should be done to receive the best advice for treating acne scars.

Nail Fungus – 5 Nail Fungus Myths and Facts

Friday, July 4th, 2008

We are constantly being exposed to misleading information on different subjects, including health-related issues. What is dangerous about this is that if we are convinced and if we take the wrong information as the truth, we would not know the right thing to do. At times, we would choose to do nothing, but it would be more terrible if we do something that would make our health make a turn for the worse. For nail fungus, there are several myths that will be debunked in this article.

Myth 1: Nail fungus cannot be cured

Fact: Nail fungus is caused by fungi (Tinea unguium), yeasts (Candida albicans), and molds. These microorganisms thrive in a warm and moist environment, such as that which is found in one’s foot. They can be eliminated by medications, but they can recur easily and spread to other healthy nails, and this gives a lot of people the idea that they can never be completely eradicated. Nails that have fallen out can grow back healthy.

Myth 2: Nail fungus can be cured quickly

Fact: It is very difficult to eliminate nail fungus since it is hard for medications to penetrate the nail. All kinds of treatments will surely last a long time. One must continuously and religiously apply the treatment to the affected area for it to work. Neglecting to do so will only result in negative results. Another reason why this nail problem won’t easily clear up is because of the fact that nails grow slowly. Fingernails grow at the rate of 3 mm a month. Toenails grow even slower at the monthly rate of 1 mm and take around 1 year to get completely replaced. Thus, the replacement of damaged or infected nails takes a very long time.

Myth 3: Nail fungus can be dealt with by using topical products:

Fact: Topical medications can’t penetrate the nails easily. The nail fungus thrives underneath the nail and using topical treatments only serve as an external attack. More effective against nail fungus are oral pills.

Myth 4: Nail fungus results from poor hygiene

Fact: You can’t get nail fungus from having poor hygiene. The opposite is also untrue. It can’t be eliminated by following any cleansing routine. Scrubbing or soaping the affected area won’t cure nail fungus. What would definitely help in getting rid of nail fungus is boosting your immune system, through oral medications. Another solution to nail fungus is the use of doctor-prescribed treatments and proven natural remedies.

Myth 5: One can catch nail fungus in a public place, such as a locker room

Fact: Avoiding such areas does not play a big factor in the prevention of nail fungus since it is not highly contagious among people. The kind of fungus involved in this ailment can be found almost anywhere, and its residences include soil, water, and air. However, even if you are exposed to these fungi, you don’t automatically contract nail fungus since your immune system holds them off before they can even take over your nail beds. When nail fungus does show, it is because your immune system was not able to fight it. What would help prevent nail fungus is eating the right diet in order to improve the condition of your immune system.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy And NLP For Agoraphobia

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is effective in helping people to overcome panic disorders. I use CBT at my practice in Edinburgh and have found it very useful in treating agoraphobia, particularly when used in conjunction with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). This article details some of the ways in which CBT and NLP are used during NLP Edinburgh to help clients achieve freedom from agoraphobia.

1. Cognitive Therapy – At NLP and CBT Edinburgh, people are supported to identify and challenge information processing errors that maintain anxiety. Panic attacks and anxiety are initiated by unhelpful thinking. Thoughts alone do not cause anxiety, but believing negative thoughts does lead to anxiety. During CBT and NLP sessions, clients are supported to question the evidence for and against their interpretations.

2. Behavioural Therapy – This is the doing part of cognitive behaviour therapy and in the case of agoraphobia, the therapist will support you in identifying a hierarchy of goals related to going out. The therapist will be aiming for you to become desensitized to going out activities that you currently fear. The therapist accompanies you into the community where appropriate.

3. Learning cognitive strategies to master panic – clients that come for NLP and CBT Edinburgh are taught techniques to practice during homework tasks. You are supported in becoming effective at using these techniques when you are feeling panicky.

4. Practising – You will get out of therapy what you put in and mastering your panic will involve you carrying out practice in between sessions. Typical practice assignments include keeping a ‘Beating Panic’ Journal’, carrying out practice related to your ‘going out and about’ goal and creating a routine that involves empowering ‘calm’ activities. You will also be required to practice any coping techniques taught to you by the therapist, such as using your anchors (see below).

5. NLP Communication Model – Clients are taught NLP clean language techniques. This means learning to think and communicate with your self in a way that supports being safe, confident, and relaxed.

6. NLP Change Techniques – NLP, which is an understanding of how we code experience in our brain, has a range of techniques, which can be used to reduce or eradicate the intensity of remembered experiences. Its possible to take an unpleasant memory, examine how it is coded and then make changes so that it is no longer unpleasant and the emotion can just drain away. If you suffer from unpleasant memories or fears, an NLP therapist can help you deal with this, via submodality work. These treatments are available from my therapy practice, where I use NLP Edinburgh. You can also learn to be aware of the impact of how you code experience yourself.

7. Anchoring For Emotional Balance - Anchors are naturally occurring associations between an external stimulus and a behavioural or emotional response. They occur because the human mind constantly seeks to make sense of the environment by looking for patterns and associations between things. People learn to make negative associations between things. In the case of agoraphobia this may be associating going for a walk to the corner shop with fear and panic. NLP deliberately makes use of anchors in order to empower people to have control over their emotional states. There are specific NLP techniques in which a stimulus is used to trigger and link an emotional state. The stimulus is usually external and may be a sound or touch. Through these techniques it is possible to for an individual to build up a resource of positive emotional states, which they can access in any situation in which they need them. It is also possible to completely collapse negative anchors so that external stimuli that cause you negative emotional states will no longer be a problem.

These are just some of the ways that NLP and CBT Edinburgh can be effective at empowering people to overcome agoraphobia and other panic disorders.

Know About Acne

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Acne is a skin disease that causes inflammation. Pimples are formed in the skin of the person whose is affected by acne. Teenagers are found to be infected by acne and it mostly occurs at the initial stages of puberty. Some people suffer from acne even during their adult ages. But mostly, acne gets cured by itself after the teenage. But there is no general rule that acne will go away in the later adulthood. Hence t is advised to take treatments for curing acne.

The wounds in the hair follicle cells combined with the sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands lead to acne. When not treated at the proper time acne spreads in the entire area of the skin. The wounds or enlargements leading to acne are caused by bacteria called propioibacterium acnes. The sebaceous glands secrete oily substance and this is secreted more for people at the puberty stages. This sebum helps the bacteria to multiply and this causes the rupture of dermis layer of the skin which results in formation of pimple.

The formations of pimples are the symptoms of acne. The pimples appear in the face, shoulder or the neck. The area of the skin infected by acne and the intensity of the pustules are dependent on the individual. For most of the people reddish pimples are formed and they go away with time. The infection that is caused is mild in these cases. But for certain people the pimples spread to the nearer areas. The swellings become large for people seriously affected with acne and these pustules are filled with transparent fluid. The infection spreads to those areas that come in contact with this fluid.

The causes of acne are different for different people. It is necessary to find out the causes to treat the pimples. For most adolescent people, the secretion of hormones results in acne. At the stages of puberty, people suffer from abnormality in the hormones that are secreted. For men, androgen secretion increases leading to increase in the sebum secretion by the sebaceous glands. This is favorable for the developments of bacteria leading to acne.

The formation of pimples is directly related to the production of hormones. When people suffer from stress, the hormones are secreted more. This also causes pimples. For some people, the sebaceous glands may be overactive in general. If the adrenal glands secrete more hormones due to some reason, the sebaceous glands will be stimulated leading to the formation of pustules. In some cases, the bacteria blocks the skin pores and the swellings are formed as the skin does not breathe in those areas. In certain other cases, pustules are formed by the accumulation of dead cells. The frequent use of anabolic steroids also leads to the formation of cysts in skin as the steroids induce the hormone secretion.

Acne is caused in many adults as they expose their skin to chemical agents. The skin is the highly sensitive portion of the body and when it is exposed to toxins, pimples are formed immediately. Some people may stay in sun for a long time which causes sun burns leading to acne. The face has to be washed often to remove the dirt and grease which helps for the multiplication of bacteria. Acne is found is people who don’t take proper care for their skin.

Acne is treated by applying ointments and gels on the affected area. Generally, it is not possible to prevent the appearance of pimples in most of the people. But once they get pimples, they can be cured and further infection can be stopped. Many products are available in the market for treating acne and they have to be applied continuously for more than two weeks to treat acne. Certain products are effective in only certain areas of the skin. Whatever may be the reason for the formation of pustules, these products must be applied to prevent the spreading of infection.

Acne can be prevented when care is taken for the skin. The sebum secreted by sebaceous glands combined with dirt in the skin will cause pustules. To prevent the dirt from getting accumulated it is essential to wash the skin regularly with a good face wash. The exposure to sun light should be minimized to prevent the settling of dirt. Intense sunlight will surely damage your skin causing more sweat which results in the formation of pimples. The appearance of pimples is a symptom of acne. Most young adults have the habit of scratching the pimples which will spread the infection. The fluid within the pustules will form infection in the other areas due to scratching.

It is vital to understand the causes of acne. For teenagers, the hormonal secretion is induced in the puberty stages. The adrenal glands secrete hormones which activate the sebaceous glands. These types of causes cannot be avoided as it happens within the body. But people can take steps to reduce stress in their minds which is also responsible for acne. People who eat fatty foods are also affected by acne as the oils in the food stimulate sebaceous glands.

The treatments for acne lead to irregularities in the skin. The pimples may be cured but in most of the cases they leave scars which are undesirable. The latest technology uses laser treatments and blue light therapy that will cure the pimples without scars. But it is not possible to use these latest therapies for all skin types. Depending on the individuals, the treatments vary but for most, the original skin is lost.

The best way is to prevent acne from affecting your skin. This depends on the care you take for the skin and also on the lifestyle. When you see a pimple in your skin, stop taking fried items so that your sebaceous glands are not over activated. People who suffer from obesity also suffer from acne. Take nutritional balanced diet and exercise regularly to dissolve the extra fat in the body. This will regularize your hormones and will prevent acne.

Know About the Different Acne Products

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Acne is a skin disease that is caused by a type of bacteria called P.acnes. The oil that is produced by the glands in the skin attracts the dirt and hence provides a favorable environment for the bacteria to increase in number. This causes infection resulting in inflammation in the skin. Pimples are developed as a result and they look like small nodules on the surface of the skin. These pimples spoil the look of the person and also cause pain in some cases. Acne is commonly found in teenagers during the stages of their puberty. This type of acne will disappear naturally when the boy or the girl crosses the teenage. Acne is also found in adults of the age thirty and forty. For these people specific treatments have to be taken so that the complexion of the skin is maintained.

Various acne products are available in the market for curing acne. These medicines are either ointments that are applied externally or pills that are consumed internally. For teens these products are sufficient to cure their mild acne but they are not suitable for adults. Adult acne can be cured only with the help of dedicated treatment that involves various cosmetic therapies.

The actual cause for acne is still unknown while for teens acne is mainly caused by the hormonal changes in the body. The food habit also has a major influence in causing the disease. When people take items that contain more oil, the sebaceous glands are activated to produce more sebum. The excess secretion of sebum results in the formation of pimples causing acne. Acne will become severe if the symptoms appear on unhealthy skin. When dirt is allowed to settle down on the skin for a long time, it blocks the pores thus creating acne. It is always better to maintain a dirt free skin to prevent acne. Use of cosmetics is also a major reason for acne in adults. The creams that are used in the make up stick to the skin blocking the pores. As a result the dirt is clogged up in the pores and the bacteria multiply leading to acne.

While choosing acne products you must know the ingredients of the product. Generally creams, gels and ointments are used as products for treating acne. These creams reduce the secretion of sebum and fights against the bacteria to cure acne. Doctors suggest the use of creams containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid for treating pimples as they are very effective. You must read the labels before buying the product to know what is included in the creams. Many of these creams will claim to have 98% nutrients for the kin and these nutrients will be present only in the outer layer. Some manufacturers may call their product as a natural one but actually these will be made of extracts from natural substances. You have to be careful while choosing these natural products. You can choose a cream that contains organic products. Organic products are safe for the skin and organic creams contain 95% organic substances and 5% water.

The acne products that are effective with one person need not have the same effect with the other person. This is because each of us has a different skin type and different products have to be used accordingly. For some people use of wrong acne products created harmful effects.
